I really like it dude! Those hats are high as fuck though. It's not often a mix is muddied up with thin sounds so much as I'm usually pissed off at how much bass things have. Actually, as someone who usually employs too much high end herself I'm kind of impressed. You mixing on earbuds?

Warhector responds:

Thanks very much man! No, I mixed with Fame Studio Monitors and Studio headphones. It was not bad in my ears tho. Are you sure you are not using modified hardware/software? Else thanks for review :)

Metronome it! I was listening to the track and the browser was glitching the audio on my end. It got me thinking: this guitar track would sound amazing with some really crazy IDM drums going on. Just saying :p

Karmakosm responds:

Haha. If you want to remix this with IDM drums, be my guest. Lol

Damn dude, I loved how dark this was. Really feeling the industrial vibes dude. Those bleepy acid trance stab sounds were perfect. I know the point of industrial isn't supposed to be clean but I felt like if there was anything this song could have benefitted from it was slightly better mixing. Aside from that it's a really sick track. I love it dude.

So dark :3

DESHIEL responds:

I'm still bad at filltering bass ;D

Same thing different user for added emphasis. Figure out a way to mix this a little cleaner. All in all the track is sounding really solid. Love it love it. Master her though. Perfect her. Make her beauteous.

FrankMunoz responds:

thank you for those kind words,

(mastering is my weakest subject)

Loving the creeping vibes from this. Classic "Go" sample in there. Really, this song stinks of classic. The song sounds like there's some clipping going in there creating a fuzzy little buzz from time to time. I really love those melodies man. Cool harmonies.

Awesome awesome awesome. That intro had a really chill vibe to it. The drums were spot on. As I'm listening to the track I have to say that I'm most interested in those evolving drum patterns.

I might have dropped the vocals just a tad in certain spots. In certain places those vox are fucking perfect though. Love it! This track is killing it.

motakay responds:

Thanks! Really warming to hear! Spend alot of time programing the drums in natural patterns. :)
Yes, I am sure you are right, I tried to mix the voice as even as I could and listening through different speakers and headphones, but its so hard to get an overall and even level to the vocals.

Damn dude those choppy drums were really special. I was fricken digging the spastic beats! Really out there and experimental. I thought the vocal samps came off as lazily pitch bent but dude: I'm the biggest god damn hypocrite on the face of...hmmmm. You know. Fill in the lol.

Also, only 8 hours? Fuck man, I wish my tracks would pump out like that again. Fucking creative energy karma :p

Nav responds:

"only" 8 hours? :( That's 8 hours of time spent in the DAW just moving shit around, at least according to FL Studio. This track took me at least a few weeks, and it was the only thing I made in like 5 months =\ it's more a testament to my lack of creative energy during that period. I also got a few false starts but nothing really ever came of those.

Thanks for the review :) Experimental was the goal!

hahahahaha, love it dude. The choirs are fucking great. I also did a track for the comp based on a Splosh piece. I was giving Harlock a hard time because I was going to contact a different artist originally but Harlock beat me to him. I went with Splosh instead but B=by the time I finished my track I noticed yours and was like "fuck it. Sadness."

Don't let my girlish hatred for you spoil the fact that the tracks fucking awesome dude! You nailed a hella gothic track. I'm sure Josh will be a happy dog to hear this. You're doing him good. LOVE IT!

SoundChris responds:

Thanks a lot for your kindness. Hm ... i am very sorry for your situation ... now i feel a little bit guilty :( I didn´t notice that that just 1 picture each artist was allowed - so it was pure luck for me. I have finished the piece very fast because i will have to get my software onto a new mac and feared that there could be some problems etc which could blast my project.

In front of this background i highly appreciate your commendation, very sportsmanlike!
I hope you will be able to send some track into the contest.

All the Best and thanks for leaving your thoughts here!

Chris

Loving those piano melodies. My favorite parts where when you got all dissonant/ tritones and what not!

Really man, I'm a sucker for those sexy atonal jives. Cool shit man. I hope you keep up with these things. May I suggest that next time you try playing more with the velocities of your notes? Get dynamic up in there with super light little notes then slam us when those super punchy jabs. Juxtapose hard with soft.

Curious, you listen to much classical? Chopin is my personal favorite. Anyone interested in piano should give him a listen.

Blacklawn responds:

Thanks a lot. I actually did more velocity changes in this one than in all my previous songs. I do love Chopin, but my favorite piano song ever is called "Fruehlingsrauschen", by Christian Sinding.

Love it dude. I honestly think it's lame that you chose to do a video game remix but in all honesty, it's good enough to be an authentic Squaresoft produced track. I utterly and completely detest listening to video game remixes. Regardless, this is probably the best video game remix I've ever heard.

I'm in love with those IDM drum rhythms. Fucking beautiful harmonies. All the creative ideas you made: I love. The problem with this song is the silly little ascending and descending arpeggio motif. That alone is going to be the reason why anyone will really comment on this song. You're about to get three or four reviews from kids that know jack shit about music and all they're going to say is "AWESOME SONG DUDE! I LOVED FFX!!" Video game music is essentially the same as drawing anime. It's a dime a dozen but when something good finally comes out of it I'll hate it on principal.

Make more jazz you lazy lazy person you :/

S3C responds:

thanks quarl, glad you enjoyed

unfortunately, i've got more remixes on the way :) i dont normally make VG remixes but i actually made this 3-4 years ago hehe, will post more old projects in time. as for potential future reviews: don't discourage them i could always use a pat on the back even if it's on Uematsu's merit ;) will try and post more jazz soon
